Price: $50
The second workshop, we're going even DEEPER!!!!!
People want to know you, they want to hear your story, they want to feel connected to you, it's the most visceral part of us, the desire to be a part of something other than ourselves, and so let's find a way to get rid of all that is holding you back from revealing yourself. Let's sit in a performance space together and get to know one another by creating a safe haven where you will feel comfortable in opening yourself up to be seen, to be heard, to be understood, and once you get there, you will never be the same, I promise you. To be empowered in this way is the most cathartic feeling you will ever have and the greatest gift you could ever bestow upon yourself. The strength you feel will be all your own, it will be your ART, and you will finally be able to do what is perhaps the greatest thing any of us can do for those around us, you will be an INSPIRATION to anyone and everyone you share your story with. Whether it's around your dinner table with your family, at an open mic, in performance of any kind, or just hanging around with your friends and talking, it could be anywhere and any situation in your life, you will be completely transformed once you find this part of you, once you allow yourself to be free of whatever is obstructing you from being able to share your truth, your JOY. All you need is YOU. Your sense of SELF. Self WORTH. CONFIDENCE. Come be a part of this life altering intensive workshop and be forever changed.
Here's how it works. You bring a story. It can be a poem. A short story. A paragraph. A monologue. A song. A dance. It can be ANYTHING that you feel will best enable you to share what you are trying to get across, and everyone in the group will take care of the rest, in the most amazing collaboration, you will learn more about your own story than you ever could have imagined, and so, be prepared with your work, some comfortable clothes, make sure you eat a good breakfast before you come, and be willing. And be ready for me, because I plan on dropping hearts all over that space, including my own.
Saturday, May 12th. noon-5pm. Each workshop limited to 12 people so EVERYONE will get very personal time to work in addition to being very closely involved with everybody else's work. A VERY intensive workshop, very intimate, very much like the Q&A's after my shows, LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!!!

Usually the word "GALA" would imply an event that happens BEFORE a production is up and running, a celebration to help raise money to do just that, but as we all know, I do things differently, and so in the spirit of continuing to march to the beat of my own drummer, and thanks in large part to my 500 NAMES community, I have decided to include the actual OPENING of my show as part of my GALA. You get to contribute to the CREATING of this amazing theatrical experience, in addition to donating to great cause like The Children's Aid Society, AND be a part of HISTORY, the NEW YORK CITY DEBUT OF BROKE WIDE OPEN!!!
In October of 2006, BROKE WIDE OPEN was born, I began writing songs on the subways and the rest is well documented, and so here we are, after quite the journey already, the next part of this evolution is about to begin, the New York City DEBUT of BROKE WIDE OPEN at The 45th Street Theatre will open with a BANG, a fundraising GALA with a portion of the proceeds going to the Adoption and Foster Care program at The Children's Aid Society.

I am so honored and privileged to be able to contribute through my art and my story to children who's lives have begun in chaos, and in many cases, remained that way. The Children's Aid Society is an organization that has been around for more than 150 years, serving children in need. "In a perfect world, every child would be nurtured by a loving family, attend a challenging and exciting school and live in a supportive community. But the sad reality is that not every child has these opportunities." To learn more about The Childrens Aid Society, you can go to their website at
http://www.childrensaidsociety.org/adoption-foster-care .
The purpose of this opening night GALA is multi-dimensional. First, we are finally, REALLY opening BROKE WIDE OPEN, this the most important run of the show yet, the first fully mounted production with the hopes of a long and magical life, and so this will be a profound night of emotion and celebration.
Second, we are using this event to continue to raise funds for the show to ensure a strong start to this amazing opportunity, this is really an exclamation point on my 500 NAMES campaign, to pay all of my collaborators, to extend our time in the space, to ensure the best possible opportunity for my show to be presented in the way it should be seen, no excuses, the full show, with a real chance to live a long life, with all of the money for our show being raised as a COMMUNITY, I am VERY PROUD of the way we will be getting to this exciting October evening of Theatre in New York City, together.
I also had the good fortune of having some incredibly talented artists submit their work for our production, and it was a very difficult time deciding on who was going to be a part of our team, so I have decided to ask all of the artists if they would show the work that they submitted at the Gala. That work will be on sale, also with a portion of the proceeds going to Children's Aid, and the rest going to these amazing artists for their respective original paintings.
And then, finally, as mentioned before, being able to contribute to The Children's Aid Society, which is simply a humbling moment in my life, to be able to give back to an organization that makes me realize how fortunate I was to have been finally adopted by 2 of the most amazing people in the world after a few stops in Foster Care, that is simply not the case for many children, so I am thankful for the chance to be able to do this. My only regret is that my parents couldn't see this, both of them passed away, but I'm hopeful that somehow, they know, and I'm sure this would make them proud.
And so I hope to see you at this GALA, this OPENING NIGHT of BROKE WIDE OPEN, me and my collaborators are so proud of what we have put together, I am incredibly grateful to have such amazing people get involved with my project, my life's work, you are in for a life altering experience, I believe that once you leave the theater after seeing the show on October 6th, you will be forever changed. I know I will be, for sure.
AND PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN OPENING NIGHT CELEBRATION PARTY AT THE ACTORS TEMPLE THEATRE, 339 W 47TH ST, IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS AMAZING OPENING NIGHT PERFORMANCE!
